Where the Mask Ends episode 5 recap: Whoever married him is Wei Rao

In short

The old Madame saves A Chou from the fire and rules that she keeps the name. Jun Dai tries again at the Qixi festival and nearly drowns her.

What happens in episode 5

The old Madame arrives in time to put out the fire. Jun Dai cries and accuses A Chou of refusing to give up her title. A Chou tells the truth, while Bi Tao runs to fetch Lu Zhuo.

The old Madame decides: whoever married Lu Zhuo is Wei Rao. Her reason comes out later: A Chou says she has hidden a letter in the Duke's house that will reveal everything if she dies. Jun Dai is kept on as an 'adopted granddaughter'.

Back home, A Chou retrieves the letter from a medicine pillow. Lu Changning attacks her over Xie Hualou, and Qi Zhongkai whispers that she isn't the real fourth daughter. She slaps him loudly, so the whole house hears him insulting his friend's wife.

At the Qixi lantern festival, Jun Dai's men hold A Chou under the river. She pretends to drown, drags Jun Dai into the water, and Lu Zhuo pulls her out.

Why it matters

A Chou's hidden letter is her insurance, and it becomes a problem in the next episode.
